Mountaineering in Kashmir

Welcome India Tour and Travel offers you details on mountaineering activities in the different regions of Kashmir. The mountains in Kashmir may be categorized as Alpine and Himalayan. The four important mountaineering zones in the state of Jammu and Kashmir are Kashmir, Zanskar, Kishtwar and Ladakh. Mountain climbing is a very popular adventure activity in this region. Proper expeditions have been conducted in the past and are still being conducted by professional mountain climbers to climb their way up to peaks that lie at great heights in the shortest possible time period.

There are a number of tour and travel packages that provide ample opportunity for amateur mountain climbers to enjoy mountaineering trips and expeditions.

There are a number of trekking trails from Kishtwar to a number Himalayan peaks that are not at a very great altitude. In fact these treks can be completed within a weeks time. Most of these trekking tours offer packages that include all the trekking and camping equipment.

Several joint trekking expeditions have been conducted in the Karakoram ranges. Every Foreign mountaineering expedition in the state of Jammu and Kashmir requires the issuance of a written permission from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.

The popular peaks of Ladakh and Kashmir where mountaineering expeditions are organized on a regular basis are Apsarasas, Chong Kumdan, Teram Kangri Group, Tughmo Zarpo and Saser Kangri. Places like Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg serve as base camps for trekking tours to mountain peaks.

Duration: 07 Nights And 08 Days

Day 01:

Arrival at Srinagar international airport our RIE representative will meet & Greet you and then transfer towards Sonamarg drive through picturesque village (Meadows of Gold), on arrival at Sonamarg and you will be our Horse Mans after load the trekking equipment into the horses and you will walk upto Thajiwas Glacier, Which is Three Kilometers from Sonamarg. On arrival at Thajiwas glacier fix the Camp at the foot of the Glacier which is 3000 Mtrs. Here you will eat a delicious dinner around the bonfire and overnight Stay at Camp

Day 02:

Morning after breakfast we leave for Nichnai and our trek begins with a steep ascent along a well-defined trail up to the lush Shokdhari meadow from where from you can take in a spectacular view of Zojila Pass (Altitude 3530 Mtrs.) and Sonamarg in the valley below.
From the meadow the path then continues along a ridge before descending through birch groves to our campground for the night at Nichnai and arrives at Nichnai then fix the camps (The Shepherds valley). Here you will eat a delicious dinner around the bonfire and overnight Stay at Camp

Day 03:

Early Morning after breakfast leave for Nichnai and we immediately start climbing up to the Nichnai Pass (Altitude 4080 Mtrs.), where our tired legs are compensated with uninterrupted views of glaciers close to K2. The trail then descends towards Vishnasar and Krishnasar Lakes through the beautiful natural garden meadows with many different wild flowers towards the Vishnasar and Krishnasar Lakes, Arrive at Lake and Fix the Camps beside the Lake, Here you will eat a delicious dinner around the bonfire and overnight Stay at Camp

Day 04:

Early morning after breakfast leave for full day's trek of 6/7 hours walk takes us today to the small town of Gadsar and is also known as a Botanist paradise. From Krishnasar, a ten km trek sees the trail climbing up into a more exposed, alpine landscape where we cross the (Highest point of our trek - Bazbal Gali Altitude 4191 Mtrs.). From here, a magnificent view of (Nanga Parbat Altitude 8126 Mtrs) awaits us before the trail descends to Gadsar, where we will spend the night and fix the camps. Here you will eat a delicious dinner around the bonfire and overnight Stay at Camp

Day 05:

Early Morning after breakfast we leave for Gadsar - it is a pleasant climb up through Poshpatri (The valley of flowers) towards Megandub where the rare musk deer as well as the Kashmiri stag are regularly sighted. After which we follow a steep and difficult path up towards (Satsaran Gali Altitude 3608 Mtrs.) - this is the Second highest pass on our trek but you will be rewarded with stunning views of (Mount Harmukh Altitude 5148 Mtrs) and the lakes of Nudhkhol and Gangabal before making a steady descent to our lakeside on arrival at Gangabal Lake and then fix the camps, Here you will eat a delicious dinner around the bonfire and overnight Stay at Camp

Day 06:

After the last few strenuous days it's time to relax and enjoy a day of leisure at the lake, which is ideal for trout fishing. Regarded as sacred by Kashmiri Hindus Gangabal is the perfect place to enjoy nature at its finest. For the more energetic a full day visit to the Lul Gul pass can be arranged from where you can look out across the valley to the beautiful (Nanga Parbat Altitude 8126 Mtrs). Overnight stay at base camps, here you will eat a delicious dinner around the bonfire.

Day 07:

Morning after breakfast Sadly leaving Gangabal on our final day of Trekking together we follow the trail through Trunkol and Nunkol two small gypsy villages before making a steep descent through dense green forests towards Naranag. At Naranag we will visit a Buddhist monastery where it has been said that the 3rd world Conference of Buddhists was held nearby. A short walk then takes us to the road head where our jeep will be waiting for us after we load the all things in the Jeeps and towards to Srinagar Check inn Houseboat/Hotel Dinner and overnight stay

Day 08:

Morning after Breakfast leave for the full day trip to Srinagar tour of Mughal Gardens Visits the Heritages Places, Cheshmashahi (By Shah Jehan in 1632 AD.), Pari Mahal (By Dara Shikoh), Nishat Bagh (By Asaf Khan in 1633 AD.), Shalimar Bagh (By Jehangir in 1616 AD.) Afternoon transfer to airport to connect flight for onward Destination Covered.
